NRA Basic Shotgun Course


The NRA Basic Shotgun course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for the safe and proper use of a shotgun in shooting a moving target. This course is at least 10 hours long and includes classroom and range time learning how to shoot shotguns at moving targets. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; shotgun parts and operation; shotgun shell components; shotgun shell malfunctions; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting at straight away and angled targets; cleaning; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive written training materials, take an exam, and receive a course certificate upon successful completion.

Stream Sampling – Volunteers needed!


On Saturday June 10th (8:30 AM – 11:30 AM), we will be heading into our streams on our property to monitor their health. There will be several ways to volunteer – from getting in the water (12 - 24 inches deep) to collecting the stream bugs, to examining and identifying the different aquatic macroinvertebrates, to staying dry (and bug-free) – taking pictures of the event or recording information on the samples collected. Volunteers of all ages are welcome. (Kids under 12 years old will need an adult present.) We will meet at the Club house at 8;30 then head out to our stream sampling locations. IWL will have the equipment on-hand for the sampling. (We are in need of empty egg cartons for collecting/ sorting or bugs.) Volunteers should come dressed for being out in the woods (or in the stream – if they want).
